Well, what do you know? Look at that. It’s a 4g netbook, courtesy of Sprint and Dell! Who’d have thought? In everything but radio capabilities, the netbook — namely, the Inspiron Mini 10 — is a standard affair. It has a 1.66GHz Intel Atom N450 CPU, 1GB of RAM, Intel GMA 3150 graphics, a 250GB hard drive and a 10.1-inch widescreen display at 1024×600. It runs Windows 7 Starter Edition and comes with the usual gaggle of USB ports, along with 802.11 b/g/n WiFi. On the other hand, it can leverage high-speed WiMAX when it’s available, and EVDO Rev. A when it isn’t. Sprint and Dell have also announced another Inspiron-branded 4G laptop, the Inspiron 11z. It has a 1.20GHz Intel Core i3-330UM processor, 2GB of RAM and a 250GB hard-drive, and runs an 11.6-inch, 1,366 x 768 display off Intel HM57 graphics. I’m not really sure if it qualifies as a netbook with a Core iX CPU, but with a 6-cell battery good for up to 6.5 hours and a 11.6-inch display, I’d say it’s pretty close. So how much will these 4G netbooks cost? The Inspiron Mini 10 will be free after a $100 mail-in rebate from October 31st, while the Inspiron 11z will be just $149.99 after a mail-in rebate from November 14th. You’ll need to agree to a two year 4G contract, though, to get either machine. |
